Irene White, director of special education for the Laguna Beach Unified School District, was named 2018 Special Education Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators Region 17. ACSA Region 17 will recognize all award recipients at the Orange County Administrators of the Year Banquet on May 7 in Irvine.

California Education Code sections 41507, 41572, and 64001 and the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) require each school to consolidate all school plans for programs funded through the ConApp and ESEA Program Improvement into the SPSA.

On December 12, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education took action to approve the Positive Certification of the 2017-2018 First Interim Financial Report and authorized its filing with the County Superintendent of Schools. The report highlights various positive adjustments to the adopted budget for the year.

Student council election speeches were held on Thursday, November 9th. Our 5th grade candidates gave speeches which were live-streamed into the classroom, where their peers had an opportunity for vote for a candidate in each office.

Throughout the entire month of October, El Morro Elementary will celebrate disabilities in an effort to educate the school community about the value of a diverse and inclusive campus that supports all students regardless of individual differences. Events include a respectability assembly and a day of unity on National Anti-Bullying Day.

LBUSD ranked second in Orange County for overall percentage of students who met or exceeded state standards on the 2017 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), the results of which were released today by the California Department of Education (CDE).

Back-to-School Night will be held on Thursday, September 14th. El Morro Elementary will be on a minimum day schedule, which means students will be dismissed early at 11:45 on that day. Grades 3rd through 5th are from 5:00 to 6:00 pm and Grades TK through 2nd are from 6:15 to 7:15 pm.

Last spring, the Board of Education revised the policy on volunteers and visitors to increase the safety and security of our school campus. As part of this revised policy, we will institute new procedures for screening visitors and volunteers beginning this school year. LBUSD will begin using the Raptor visitor management system in all district schools.

On June 27, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Ryan Zajda as director of facilities effective July 17. Zajda replaces Jeff Dixon who was promoted to assistant superintendent of business services in April.

On June 13, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Dr. Jason Allemann as principal of Laguna Beach High School effective July 1. Dr. Allemann has over 10 years of experience as a high school principal, currently serving as principal of Dana Hills High School.
