The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4! The only school supplies students will need for the upcoming school year is a backpack and a lunchbox. El Morro Elementary School will supply everything else needed for the classroom.

The last day the El Morro Elementary School office will be open before summer vacation is Friday, June 29, 2018. The school office will re-open on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Teacher assignments for next year will be available online to all families who have confirmed their residency in Laguna Beach on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 3:30 pm.

Sometimes principals, librarians, and teachers worry that the reading skills that kids have built over the academic year will be lost over the summer. To help keep literacy skills sharp this summer, we are once again issuing the Principal's Summer Reading Challenge.

Summer is soon approaching and Thursday is the last day of school! The bell schedule for Monday through Wednesday remain unchanged. Thursday is a minimum day and students will be dismissed accordingly:

Summer school 2018 at Laguna Beach Unified School District will begin on Monday, June 25 for all grade levels. Elementary and middle school students will be attending Top of the World Elementary School and students in grades 9-12 will be at Laguna Beach High School.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has designated Laguna Beach Unified School District a No Place for Hate® district, recognizing its commitment to creating safe and respectful learning environments for students. The ADL will present LBUSD with the No Place for Hate designation at the school board meeting in the fall.

El Morro Elementary was named to the 2017-2018 Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll for its high achievement and student success. The program is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes, it is one of 1,798 schools in CA to be recognized.

Yearbooks are on sale for $22.00 and the deadline is May 30th. Please label your envelope with your child's name and the teacher's name. Yearbooks will be distributed out the last week of school.

The 'Paws for Books' Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon. Tuesday, May 29th to Friday, June 1st during school hours. All classes will visit the book fair during the week and it will be open for families to visit during our Open House night on Wednesday, May 30th.

Laura Silver, an 8th-grade language arts teacher at Thurston Middle School, was selected as the LBUSD Teacher of the Year. Additionally, Kristine Landrum, special education instructional assistant at Top of the World Elementary, was selected as the Classified Employee of the Year for the district.

The Center for Digital Education recognized LBUSD as a Digital School Districts Survey 2017-2018 winner for its innovative technology and digital learning initiatives. The survey awards the U.S. public school boards and districts that most fully implement technology benchmarks in the evolution of digital education.

On April 12 at 5:30 p.m. committee members and staff will present a recommendation for the restructuring of the student instructional year in 2019-20 at a Board Study Session to which the public is invited to attend and provide input to the Board. No decisions regarding the calendar will be made at this meeting.
