Six teams, of 4 to 7 students each, representing Laguna Beach High School, Thurston Middle School, and Top of the World Elementary from Laguna Beach Unified School District have qualified to move on to the Destination Imagination (DI) state competition on April 7 in Clovis. Teams will compete in various categories.

Tickets on sale now! Don't miss the LBHS Drama production of ALL SHOOK UP, the rock 'n roll musical comedy inspired by and featuring the music of Elvis Presley. ALL SHOOK UP opens on Friday, March 16 and runs through Sunday, March 25 in the Artists Theatre. Tickets start at just $12 for students and seniors!

Thurston Wheel Days are coming again on Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23. Students can use their rollerskates, razors, and skateboards during P.E., but please no bikes. March 22 and 23 are also minimum days and students will be released at 1 p.m. No late buses.

The 7th grade showcase for drama and chorus is coming up on Friday, March 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the Black Box. This year Thurston 7th graders are showcasing The Bully Plays. Come support our wonderful drama and chorus!

All 8th-grade students and their families are invited to attend the 8th Grade Family Night at Laguna Beach High School on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. An information session will be held in the Artists Theatre from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and an LBHS Fair for students to learn about clubs, activities, and athletics will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the north gym.

Irene White, director of special education for the Laguna Beach Unified School District, was named 2018 Special Education Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators Region 17. ACSA Region 17 will recognize all award recipients at the Orange County Administrators of the Year Banquet on May 7 in Irvine.

On December 12, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education took action to approve the Positive Certification of the 2017-2018 First Interim Financial Report and authorized its filing with the County Superintendent of Schools. The report highlights various positive adjustments to the adopted budget for the year.

Disney's The Lion King, Jr. is returning to Thurston Middle School for four performances only, featuring a brand new cast of 8th Grade students! Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20 at 4:00 and 6:30pm in the TMS Black Box. All tickets will be sold at the door: $15 for adults, $10 for students & seniors. Semester One is coming to an end on Friday, January 26. Students, it is time to step-it-up for final exams! Final exam days will be minimum days out at 1 p.m. and NO SCHOOL for middle or high students on Monday, January 29. Study hard and Good Luck!

LBHS Drama is offering $5 tickets for the Thurs., 11/2 performance of Night of the Living Dead. This pricing is available for the Thursday performance ONLY. Regularly priced tickets are available for the Fri. & Sat. 7pm performances and the Sunday 2:30pm matinee.

TMS Talks (students talking to students) and Career Talks (career experts talking to students) are happening every Thursday during ESP. Students sign up during Thursday's break outside of the Collaboratory for TMS Talks and outside of the Blackbox for Career Talks. The TMS and Career Talks are available to view on the TMS website.

LBUSD ranked second in Orange County for overall percentage of students who met or exceeded state standards on the 2017 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), the results of which were released today by the California Department of Education (CDE).

On June 27, the Laguna Beach Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Ryan Zajda as director of facilities effective July 17. Zajda replaces Jeff Dixon who was promoted to assistant superintendent of business services in April.
