Courses and Pathways

Laguna Beach High School students have access to 10 Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways on campus:

  • Dance Choreography
  • Graphic Design
  • Design, Visual and Media Arts 
  • Professional Theatre
  • Visual Commercial Arts
  • Engineering Design
  • Patient Care
  • Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation - Beginning 2026-27!
  • Software, Systems & Development (change the name- it currently says Systems Programming)
  • Emergency Response

To complete a CTE pathway, students must successfully complete both a concentrator and capstone course with a grade of C- or higher.

Completing a CTE pathway provides valuable benefits, including:

  • Development of industry-relevant skills
  • Hands-on, real-world learning experiences
  • Exploration of career interests and potential career pathways
  • Opportunities to earn certifications
  • Participation in internships and other work-based learning experiences
  • Creation of professional portfolios and capstone projects

College Readiness

  • Access to a high-quality, rigorous college-prep curriculum
  • Meets University of California/CSU “a–g” admission requirements
  • Opportunities to take Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses
  • Potentially earn free college credit through articulation agreements
  • Weighted GPA for AP and Honors coursework
  • Exploration of potential college majors and academic pathways

Career Readiness

  • Development of 21st-century career skills
  • Opportunities to earn industry certifications
  • Networking with industry professionals
  • Engagement in work-based learning (internships, job shadowing, informational interviews)
  • Use of industry-specific equipment and technology
  • Exploration and testing of potential career fields

The California Department of Education (CDE) identifies multiple measures of college and career readiness. Completion of a CTE pathway is one recognized indicator of progress toward the state’s goal of ensuring all students are “Prepared” for college, career, and life.
