Laguna Beach High School (LBHS) students in the Authentic Exploratory Research (AER) program presented their final projects last week in a walk-through symposium. The AER independent research course, adapted and inspired by Palo Alto Unified School District, has given students the opportunity to explore their passions and future career pathways through their own driving questions and curiosities alongside adult mentors in their respective fields who have helped guide each mentee in their research and analysis.
Mentor Orientation
The Mentor Orientation will take place in early September. This year orientation will take place on August 30, 2021. Potential mentors will meet with the AER mentor coordinator and learn in greater detail about the AER program and the benefits of their role. It will be made clear the expectations of the mentor versus the expectations of the student. Due to the unique nature of this program, there will be a strong emphasis on professional standards and interactions with the students. Potential mentors will be made aware of the program timeline, project components and various milestones.
At the orientation, mentors will:
- Receive a copy of the AER Mentor Handbook
- Sign the AER Mentor Agreement
- Establish a LBUSD Email address
- Complete the fingerprinting process
