Auditions are open to ALL LBHS students. Students do not need to be enrolled in a drama course in order to audition.
AUDITIONS: Wed. & Thurs., Sept. 6 & 7, from 6-9pm

LBHS Drama courses challenge students to develop their artistic initiative through extensive study of dramatic literature, refinement of acting, playwriting, and directing technique, and stimulation of high-level thinking skills. Students will reinforce these skills through applicable reading and writing tasks, monologue and scene study, improvisational exercises, and preparation for and performance of theatrical works . Our coursework is designed for students who are genuinely interested in improving their theatrical skills and developing their ability to analyze, appreciate, create, design for, and participate in drama. Challenging classwork, homework, frequent reading, writing and rehearsal both in and out of class are necessary to achieve growth. Student learning is evaluated by several methods, including but not limited to testing, writing, performance, and self-assessment. **Students should approach their studies with an open mind as well as a desire to collaborate and learn**

Information regarding auditions for upcoming productions are most often announced on on Ms. Karol's website, sent out through our email list, announced via callout and/or LBHS announcements, and audition flyers are posted on campus. These auditions are typically for LBHS students only. If a director is seeking younger actors and wishes to audition ELM/TOW/TMS students, expect those dates to be announced separately. We do plan to hold a musical theatre clinic in March for students of all ages, so stay tuned for more information!
About the Director
Alexis Karol holds a B.A. in Theatre with departmental honors from Fordham University's College at Lincoln Center and a Masters in Education from National University, where she received the Distinguished Student Award. She holds a valid Single Subject teaching credential in English with Authorization in Theatre, as well as a credential in Multiple Subjects, meaning she is certificated by the State of California to teach all grades, K-12. She is proud to bring her experience as a professional actor to the classroom, which includes appearances on stage in New York, Southern California, and throughout the country on national tour. Previously, Ms. Karol was a teacher and director at the Academy for the Performing Arts in Huntington Beach, Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana, and Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove. Ms. Karol believes in creating a safe, positive environment in which students feel comfortable taking risks which foster both artistic and personal growth. A true educator, she believes students must be taught applicable skills and provided with authentic opportunities to practice them. Within the framework of collaboration, Ms. Karol is supportive of student progress at every step of the process, facilitating growth in student confidence and success. She has observed the unique capabilities of drama to provide students with skills that aid their success in school, college, the workplace, and beyond. The competencies and values exhibited by drama students include teamwork, creative problem solving, compassion, dedication and discipline, all of which are necessary in our diverse and innovative culture. Ms. Karol is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Leadership through Seattle City University, with a concentration in P-12 Educational Program Leadership.
