Top of the World Elementary School students enrolled in the Community Learning Center (CLC) partnered with the Illumination Foundation to help raise funds and provide basic necessities to the homeless. The foundation provides targeted services for homeless adults, families and children in Orange County to break and prevent the cycle of homelessness.

The district has partnered with Schneider Electric to start the construction of a district-wide energy efficiency project. The project will improve comfort and efficiency at all sites and will have a positive environmental impact. Once completed, the district will reduce the annual electricity spend by 28 percent, saving $115,000 each year that can be reinvested back into the classroom.

Top of the World Elementary will host a day of arts workshops Thursday, October 6. Forty minute long grade-level workshops will be facilitated by an arts expert in the areas of visual arts, dance, choreography, musical composition, photography, literature and film production.

Drug and alcohol use dropped among students and perceptions of school safety increased in the LBUSD, according to the most recent California Healthy Kids Survey. The survey evaluates how well schools meet students' needs for school safety, drug and alcohol prevention, mental health, and other factors that influence learning.

Under a new law known as SB 277, beginning January 1, 2016 exemptions based on personal beliefs will no longer be an option for the vaccines that are currently required for entry into child care or school in California. Most families will not be affected by the new law because their children have received all required vaccinations.
